Ilustration To Books The Diaries of Adam and Eve

"Good deal of fog this morning. I do not go out in the fog myself," notes Adam in his diary, adding, "The new creature does. It goes out in all weathers. And talks. It used to be so pleasant and quiet here."
Adam has a lot to learn about Eve, and even more from her, as she names the animals, discovers fire, and introduces all manner of innovations to their garden home. Mark Twain's "translation" of the diaries of the first man and woman offers a humorous "he said/she said" narrative of biblical events. The great American storyteller found comfort and inspiration in the company of women, and his irreverent look at conventional religion is also a thoughtful -- and humorous -- argument for gender equality.

Column Out Of Books The Diaries of Adam and Eve
This was an abridged edition. I'm not sure if that harmed it or I just didn't find this particularly funny & it was supposed to be. It was in places, but too much was just too absurd. Strangely, it wasn't the basic Adam & Eve story, but things like Adam not knowing where babies came from. Sigh. I guess I just store my funny bone in a different location than most. I'd still recommend reading this if you like Twain. I do, so no regrets since it was enjoyable & well narrated.

Saturday nightBegan reading.Wednesday Built me a shelter against the rain, but could not have it to myself in peace. The new creature intruded. When I tried to put it out it shed water out of the holes it looks with, and wiped it away with the back of its paws, and made a noise such as some of the other animals make when they are in distress. I wish it would not talk; it is always talking. That sounds like a cheap fling at the poor creature, a slur; but I do not mean it so. I have never heard

Book Club #4: May

What did they really think about each other and their situation in the garden? Mark Twain gives us his version of this most interesting question; peppered with humor but not preachy.

An absolute fun filled with interesting reflections (on gender, Moral Sense, God's attitude, etc).I laughed very loud as I was reading the book and was underlining the passages that I liked. But then I gave up the underlining later. Otherwise would have underlined the entire book. A short book and can be read in a sitting. And I advise you not to miss it.

The first half of this short book was absolutely excellent. Eve is a free spirit determined to enjoy and bring order to the wonderful Garden of Eden. Adam is a curmudgeonly misogynist who thinks Eve talks too much and should give all this naming of animals and plants a rest. The second half of this book is throw-across-the-room frustrating and annoying. The scales fall from their eyes, Eve fancies Adam like mad and falls in love with him. They marry and forever after she subsumes her
