The complex ties which bring the four protagonists of Andromaque together and make their downfall inevitable are the essence of the beauty of this tragedy, and Racine, having set up this conundrum, explores it poetically through human feelings succeeding in both never revealing the hopeless outcome and always reminding us that it is there, waiting, at the end of the last act. As a remake of the Greek classic, Racine's tragedy lacks the creativity and it doesn't leave much of an impression to me. i get why racine was praised for these books. because it is very well-written and very tragic, so that's fitting for him. but aside from that? i feel like racine never really got the characters' essence? they all feel different than how they were represented in greek classics.now, if we only speak about this book and this book only, and if we disregard greek classics, all i have to say is that everyone is so damn toxic except andromache (oh i LOVE her). they're all obviously so driven by their
