Narration Toward Books Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis

Crit Containing Books Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis
I read this book for an undergraduate Psychology of Personality course. I will say at the outset that I believe firmly that there is value in this book even for those who consider Freudian theory to be a load of crap. Freud is, like it or not, the father of the discipline of psychology, and I think a good grounding in the history of psychology helps students to understand the progression toward where the discipline is now. I also believe that despite what some anti-Freud professors have said

I am extremely reluctant to embrace the psychodynamic orientation. In fact, I have spent the majority of my training and career as therapist vehemently resistant to all things Freudian. That being said. I have recently become obsessed with Freud and the psychoanalytic traditions. Not as a basis for objective truth claims. I probably wont ever adopt the Freudian perspective in that way. But as an orientation to relational psychotherapy. Yass!In this regard, the psychodynamic model is utterly on

One must be humble, one must keep personal preferences and antipathies in the background, if one wishes to discover the realities of the world. I loved this book .. so fine , it took me a while till I finished it , but I enjoyed most of it ..

Freud was a genius. That in no way means he was always right. But you ignore him at your peril if you are interested in understanding the human condition.

It's easy to imagine sitting there, listening to Freud speak, and feeling you were at the forefront of a new discipline, witnessing the exciting and ground-breaking exploration of a life-changing unknown. I was surprised by how much of this I already knew, but that's just a testament to how profoundly Freud has changed the way we see ourselves, and ourselves in relation to one another. In fact, most popular ideas about psychoanalysis are actually fairly accurate, to the extent that this book

I'm reading it for university exams and it has caught my attention. Now i want to learn more about psychoanalysis

One is not advised to just jump into Freud, as I did, taking little account of the order of his publications. He revised his theories too often.I was fortunate to read this series of lectures early on, although I would have been even more fortunate to have read his earlier work on hysteria first. Here Freud's theory is presented simply in lectures intended for a lay audience and here Freud's theory itself is still relatively simple compared to developments post-Beyond the Pleasure Principle.I
