Be Specific About Books In Favor Of La petite fille de Monsieur Linh

2.5 because why did this have to be so sadThere is not so much to say about this little booklet: it's a simple story about a refugee (Mr. Linh, clearly a Vietnamese) who arrives by boat with his baby granddaughter and is taken care of in a refugee center. He learns to know a man who has just lost his wife, and their gradual cordial relation is very delicate; it shows the great drama associated with loss and also shows that simple human intercourse and empathy is possible, also with substantial language and cultural barriers. To the
Okay, so I just created this basic short text for all my reviews for books I had to read for school:"This was a compulsory read for my French class."I've decided not to write any reviews for compulsory reads for my classes, since they're (most of the time) books I don't like anyway and I just don't like to review them. Besides, I'm pretty sure nobody is interested in reading my reviews of boring literature xDBUTI really want to say something about the ending though. WHAT WAS EVEN THAT ENDING??

This story opens with a cavernous sense of loss -- the death of family members and the forced displacement from one's homeland, on account of war. All that remains for one individual is an orphaned child, a faded photograph, a little bagful of native soil, and memories. When almost everything you know is ripped away, whether tragically or from resulting circumstance, one tends to revert to the few things that remain, however painful their hold. Coupled with the challenges and difficulty of
I love this book! It was so refreshing to read. I couldn't put it down so I read it in one sitting. Although it isn't the biggest of books, the story is unusual and memorizing. A must read in your life. You will laugh and cry and you won't see that twist coming! Great, but a very sad story. It gets a well deserved 5 points.
This is one of the most perfect small novels I have ever read - two intriguing adult characters and the eponymous 'petite fille'. It is a story about what it is like to be a refugee, to be lonely and to find, against all odds, a friend with whom you can communicate, even if paradoxically, you cannot communicate in any verbal sense, at all. Monsieur Linh flees his bombed out and burning village in Vietnam during the war, leaving behind the bodies of his son and daughter-in-law and taking with him
Monsieur Linh softly sings a lullaby to his granddaughter's ear as she is snuggled next to him on their thin mattress on the cold cement floor. Memories of a happier life back home keep the fragile old man awake and let him forget the cold and the unfriendly surroundings in the new country... This beautifully crafted, subtle yet intensely imagined story of refugee life and its bewilderment, memories of loves lost and the power of friendship found, is one of the most deeply touching stories I
